Millions of refugees arround the world dream of going home.
Repatriation is the process of returning a person to his or her place of origin or citizenship. Repatriation may be voluntary or involuntary.
Voluntary stands for "the free will". Volontary repatriation means going back to the country of origin, by free will. Voluntary repatriation is the return of eligible persons to the country of origin or citizenship on the basis of freely expressed willingness to such return.
Forced return of people to countries is not the same as voluntary repatriation. Involuntary repatriation is the return of refugees, prisoners of war, or civil detainees to their country of origin under circumstances that leave no other viable alternatives.
As the durable solution of choice for the largest number of refugees, voluntary repatriation in safety and dignity requires the full commitment of the country of origin to help reintegrate its own people.
It also sometimes needs the continuing support of the international community through the crucial post-conflict phase to ensure that those who make the brave decision to go home can rebuild their lives in a stable environment.
